Greenacres

Wider Curriculum

At Greenacres, our curriculum is carefully designed to support the long-term retention of knowledge within and across all subjects. From the Early Years onwards, knowledge and skills are introduced, revisited, and progressively developed over time.

Our curriculum is underpinned by two key golden threads that run through all subjects: representation and pioneering women. These themes have been carefully chosen to promote inclusion and ensure accurate, meaningful teaching that reflects the diversity of our multicultural world.

Each subject clearly identifies both substantive knowledge (what pupils learn) and disciplinary knowledge (how pupils learn within each subject).

Substantive knowledge is carefully sequenced and built upon over time, enabling pupils to develop strong, connected understanding.

Disciplinary knowledge is taught consistently across all year groups, ensuring that pupils steadily develop and deepen their skills and understanding as they progress through the school.

Vocabulary

At Greenacres, we place a strong emphasis on the explicit teaching of key vocabulary, recognising that it is essential for understanding and accessing new learning. Vocabulary is carefully selected and taught to support pupils in grasping important concepts more effectively. Alongside this, core substantive and transferable knowledge is reinforced through a range of strategies, including knowledge organisers, challenge activities and quizzes. This transferable knowledge equips pupils with the essential foundations they need for future learning.
